Anti-poverty charity Trussell has announced that Taylor Swift made a “generous donation” to support the work of its 1,400 food bank centres across the country recently.

Taylor, 34, performed at various venues in the UK earlier this year as part of the Eras Tour. It included five nights at Wembley Stadium in London in August, which remain her latest gigs ahead of the tour’s final leg launching next month.

It’s now been revealed that the singer-songwriter has since given a donation to Trussell. It’s the latest donation from Taylor, who also showed her support for a number of local food banks and community organisations in Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff and London when she performed in those cities over the summer.

As reported by PA, speaking about the donation, Sophie Carre, director of public engagement at Trussell, said: “We are extremely grateful to [Taylor] for her generous donation to Trussell. We are delighted that she has chosen to support the work of food banks and this, alongside the other donations she has made directly to food banks across the country, will help people facing hunger and hardship during their toughest moments, while working towards a more just future where everyone can afford the essentials.

“Taylor has put a spotlight on the need for emergency food at a time when our food banks in the Trussell network are providing more support to people facing hardship than ever before. We believe it’s not right that anyone needs to use a food bank and while we work together to right this wrong, this donation will go a long way in supporting the vital work of food banks to help people facing hunger.

“Our vision is for a future without the need for food banks, where everyone has enough money to afford the essentials. We all have a role to play in achieving this and we’re extremely grateful to donors like [Taylor], who make it possible for us to do the work required to end the need for food banks together.”

The donation will go directly to food banks in the Trussell community through the charity’s emergency grants programme, which supports food banks who need it most. Anyone who wants to follow in Taylor’s footsteps and play their part in ending the need for food banks can donate or find out more via Trussell’s website https://www.trussell.org.uk.

Trussell describes itself as an anti-poverty charity and community of food banks. It adds: “We work together to ensure no one in the UK needs a food bank to survive, while providing emergency food and practical support for people left without enough money to live on.”
