Judge’s Late Blast Can’t Save Yankees in Extra-Inning Loss to Red Sox.Duongnhung

BOSTON — For 106 pitches Friday night, Garrett Crochet dominated the Yankees.

That included three strikeouts of Aaron Judge, who was 0-for-6 with six punchouts in his first six at-bats against the Red Sox lefty this season.

On pitch No. 107, with Crochet two outs away from a complete-game shutout, Judge silenced Fenway Park — though it only lasted for an inning and a half.

After Judge extended the game with a dramatic game-tying home run in the top of the ninth inning, ex-Yankee Carlos Narváez won it for the Red Sox in the bottom of the 10th with a walk-off single for the 2-1 victory in front of a sell-out crowd of 36,622.

The Red Sox had runners on second and third with two outs when Narváez drilled an offering from Tim Hill off the Green Monster to end it.

In the top of the 10th, Anthony Volpe was thrown out trying to steal third base with no outs and Jasson Domínguez at the plate.

It was a bang-bang play on which he was called safe on the field, but the Red Sox challenged and got the call overturned.

After Domínguez struck out looking, DJ LeMahieu hit a ball down the first-base line that was called foul, which the Yankees challenged.

Following a lengthy review, the call on the field stood, which had Aaron Boone hot.

He stepped out of the dugout, tossed his gum and quickly got ejected, after which he argued some more, to no avail.

Then, after LeMahieu grounded out to end the inning, he said something as he ran past first base umpire Jeremie Rehak, who then threw LeMahieu out of the game as well.

Judge ruined Crochet’s shutout bid in the top of the ninth.

After working the count full, he got a 100 mph fastball on the inside edge and obliterated a 443-foot shot onto Lansdowne St. to tie the game.

Before the dramatic ninth-inning blast, Crochet had Judge’s number.

He had struck him out on 98, 97 and 99 mph fastballs in their first three battles after striking him out in all three at-bats last weekend in The Bronx.

Crochet was at 96 pitches through eight shutout innings and then came back out for the ninth and got Ben Rice to ground out for the first out.

But Judge would not be held down the whole night as he crushed his 26th home run of the year, off the bat at 115.5 mph.

He has homered five times in his last four starts.

Fernando Cruz and Tim Hill combined to get through the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extras.

All three games between these two teams last weekend were slugfests, with the Red Sox outscoring the Yankees 27-23.

Friday was a much different story as the pitching took center stage, much of it belonging to Crochet.

But Ryan Yarbrough gave the Yankees a chance, bouncing back from the Red Sox knocking him around last weekend to toss 4 ²/₃ innings of one-run ball.

The Red Sox took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Trevor Story led off with a single, stole second and scored on Ceddanne Rafaela’s single up the middle.

Yarbrough, who was tagged for eight runs in four innings last Saturday in The Bronx, limited the Red Sox to four hits and three walks Friday in the rematch.

The Yankees had a prime chance to tie the game or take the lead in the fifth inning when they put runners on the corners with no outs.

Domínguez reached on an error and then stole second before LeMahieu roped a single through the right side.

Third-base coach Luis Rojas held Domínguez at third base as Roman Anthony fired in a throw to the plate from right field.

But the Yankees squandered the opportunity as Crochet struck out Austin Wells and Oswald Peraza on six pitches and got Paul Goldschmidt to ground out to end the threat.
