During one of the worst storms of the year, a homeless dog gave birth. Rescuers from Hope For Paws rushed to the scene to help the mother and her babies.
Rain was pouring down hard, and it was dark. They brought out their flashlights and found the dogs under some bushes. Lights were pointed at them, and the rescuers went to work.
The mama dog was frightened at first by all the people around her. They started to give her food to earn her trust, and they saw she was feeding her puppies.
Slowly but surely, the rescuers were able to gain the mother’s trust, and they reached in for the puppies. When they grabbed the puppies, they also ensured their mother could see them.
When a puppy was carried out, the rescuer showed them to their mother, and the dog licked each one. She seemed to understand that they were there to help and rescue her.
The puppies were whining and crying, and the rescuers pulled out eight of them. After the mother was led to her babies, they checked if there were any puppies they missed.
In total there were five girls and three boys. The mother and her puppies were dry and happy in the shelter. They were grateful, and the puppies thrived.
