Ken Urker Reflects on Fatherhood with Baby Aurora: “I’m Soaking in Every Moment” (Exclusive)
Ken Urker, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard’s partner, is fully embracing his new role as a “girl dad” to their daughter, Aurora Raina Urker, born on December 28. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE ahead of the season 2 premiere of her reality series Life After Lockup, Blanchard and Urker shared their experiences of fatherhood.
Blanchard, 33, described how touching it is to witness Ken step into the role of a father. “It’s adorable. It really is,” she said. “It’s one of those heartwarming moments because this is new for both of us, but also Ken was young when we met, and it’s just so nice to see him grow and mature through this process.”
She added that Urker’s patience has exceeded her expectations. “I’ve learned that he is a lot more patient than I gave him credit for,” Blanchard noted. “It’s been wonderful watching him grow as a person and step into this mature role.”
Urker, on the other hand, opened up about the joys of fatherhood, sharing his favorite aspects so far. “I love her to death, and every day I get to see her grow more and more in all these little ways,” he said. “Her eyes opening wider, her starting to develop a little social smile, and just watching her get bigger. Watching the number on the baby scale grow and seeing how much food she eats—it may sound basic, but it’s so much fun for us.”
Urker continued to express his excitement about Aurora’s development: “It’s fun to see her grow more hair, figure out what her eye color will be. I’m just soaking in every moment and enjoying them to the fullest.”
Blanchard added, “I want to spoil her and just make her happy.”
The couple also shared the story behind their daughter’s name. Blanchard explained that while some speculated the name Aurora was inspired by the Disney Princess, the real inspiration came from their shared fascination with the Northern Lights, specifically the aurora borealis. “Back when Ken and I were together seven years ago, we both had a fascination with the Northern Lights. The proper term is the aurora borealis,” Blanchard said.
She also revealed a special moment in their relationship, sharing how they independently picked Aurora’s name for their future child. “In 2018, we wrote each other’s future kid’s name on pieces of paper, and Aurora is what we both picked without even knowing the other was doing it,” she recalled.
Looking back, Urker reflected on his mindset when he first reached out to Gypsy-Rose while she was in prison. “When I first reached out to Gypsy, I was 24 and just living a bachelor life. There was never an intention of developing a love for her or ending up in a relationship. It was purely out of support and compassion. But I guess that’s an example of how life can surprise you, and I’m happy that we are where we are now,” Urker shared.
