The U.S., along with France and other allies, has called for a 21-day ceasefire along the Lebanon-Israel border due to escalating violence between Israel and Hezbollah, which has resulted in significant casualties, particularly in Lebanon. The joint statement emphasized the urgent need for a temporary ceasefire to facilitate diplomatic negotiations and prevent a broader regional conflict.

While the ceasefire proposal awaits reactions from Israeli and Lebanese officials, senior U.S. sources believe Hezbollah will not officially sign the ceasefire, but that the Lebanese government may coordinate its acceptance with the group. The initiative seeks to leverage a pause in fighting to restart stalled negotiations related to a ceasefire and hostage release between Israel and Hamas.

This coordinated effort, which includes support from various countries, underscores the urgency of addressing the conflict and finding a diplomatic resolution. French officials have expressed hopes that both parties will accept the ceasefire without delay, highlighting that war is not inevitable.
