The Floridian authorities are scrambling to gather more information after a 15-month-old baby was found dead in a car, having been left there after a relative “forgot the child was present.”

Deputies with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office were called to South Sumter Middle School in Webster at approximately 4:18 p.m. on Nov. 1, a news release from the office stated.

When they arrived, deputies found the young child dead, the release said. An investigation ensued as the authorities raced to get to the bottom of what had happened, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Deputies determined that the child was “unintentionally left unattended” in the parking lot of the school. The child had allegedly been slated to be dropped off at daycare.

But the relative dropping the baby off allegedly forgot the child was there and went into the school. The sheriff’s office wrote, “The child was present with a family member and was to be dropped off at daycare. However, the family member forgot the child was present and went to the school.”

Later that day, the child was found dead in the car. Temperatures had reached 86 degrees Fahrenheit in the area that day. Deputies called it “a tragic situation” as the press release continued, “Our hearts go out to the family of the child.”

The incident occurred in Webster, which is about 50 miles west of Orlando. The identity of the child was not released. It also wasn’t clear whether the relative who forgot the baby would be charged with the child’s death.

It happened just weeks after a mother was arrested for allegedly leaving her child in a car that eventually got towed as she went to go drinking at a club.

Brandy Rachelle Brown, 29, was arrested on Monday and charged with one count of endangering a child, it was reported, after she left her 3-year-old son in an illegally parked vehicle in Houston.

The toddler was discovered by the tow truck driver after he moved the vehicle, and he immediately called 911, it was reported. Brown reportedly had previous charges of driving under the influence and interfering with a public servant’s duties.
